Well acted, well written and excellent production of a historically significant event in our time that drew us in as the story progressed. Definitely not the kind of film some people would want to see, but a totally engrossing film that touched all the emotions. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie and welcome any future opportunities. 5 out of 5.
This movie was an outstanding story (based on a true story) of the on-going fight for justice for those Jewish people who suffered the atrocities of the Nazis (WWII) and of the pursuit of one woman to regain the portrait of her beloved aunt which was seized by the Nazis along with other art from her family home and others. There are many thousands of descendants of WWII victims who still search for the return of the family art, which is rightfully theirs but claimed by Governments, museums and others. The movie was educational for some of our youth and intriguing with some rare humor made richer by Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this viewing.

One wonders how many countries are in possession of these artifacts purchased through art shows or passed down to future generations over the years who knowingly do not seek the rightful ow
I really like this show. It had a great story line and being based on a true story made it that much more remarkable. It touched a lot of my senses with respect to what they went through.
The movie was very engaging: the lone woman justifiably fighting the "we're bigger than you" Austrian government. My thoughts and emotions went back and forth many times between happiness and anger. Great movie!
Well done. My friend and I totally enjoyed the movie. A good lesson in history, no violence no swearing, A real treat. My friend even came home to Google more information on the topic. She was inspired to learn more. People need to know. Thank you.
Excellent movie..........great story and the acting was fantastic. I'm sure this film will get the Academy's attention. At the theater where I watched it in Calgary the audience clapped when it was over.......you don't see that too often. I've written on facebook recommending it as a definite 'must see' movie!
Loved the movie and the fact that it was a true story!!!
"Woman In Gold" tells the relatively unknown story of people and families who had their property and valuables seized during WWII and their ongoing struggle to reclaim what was taken. Helen Mirren as Maria Altman is amazing but I think the biggest revelation is Tatiana Maslany as young Maria. Tatiana conveys an amazing range of emotion throughout the movie. My only criticism is the movie never really makes the viewer feel the legal barriers being erected by the the antagonists. Yes, they are self righteous in character, but the obstacles fall like dominoes and for all the angst, the characters never seem too challenged.
I enjoyed this movie even though it was not an "enjoyable" subject matter. Mirren shows her excellent adaptability and characterization. The supporting cast was ok, not bad but certainly not outstanding. The cinematography was excellent. Even though you may know the ending of the movie (as I did and likely most of the people do) it was a good telling of a story.
