I was expecting more scenery than what was shown.
Fantastic characters and relationships, and I say that without having read the novel, which I will. The real merit here is to have been able to translate into a visual language what shows through as a wonderful and complex book.
Loved it, Besides the big name hollywood stars, the lesser known actors really made the movie work. All gave a splendid performance that makes me wish hollywood market these type of movies more often...
This had to be the greatest movie, made on newfoundland. It was funny and very true in nature.
KEVIN SPACEY WAS ENTIRELY MISCAST AND RUINED THE FILM. BLANCHETT WAS SPECTACULAR!!! IS THERE NOTHING THIS WOMAN CANNOT DO REGARDING FILM ROLES? SPACEY WAS SO GOONY IN THAT ANESTHETIZED PORTRAYAL AND THAT GOONY HAT THAT HE JUST DISTRACTED ME IN EVERY ONE OF HIS SCENES. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ED HARRIS OR JEFF BRIDGES OR SOMEONE WHO COULD MAKE US EMPATHIZE WITH HIM. AND THAT HAIR DYE THING...EVERYONE ELSE IN THE FILM WAS SO GREAT, INCLUDING DAME JUDY AND SCOTT GLENN...WHAT A SHAME...THE SCENERY WAS SO BEAUTIFULLY SHOT AND SO MUCH A CHARACTER IN THE FILM...
I `recognised` the settings from the book!!!
Both the book and the movie are boring and uneventful, very bad...
I found the performance by Kevin Spacey and Judi Dench mesmerizing. Cate Blanchette showed another side of her acting ability. I believe all three actors to have a great deal of talent. It was funny to hear Julianne Moore try to speak like a Newfie... in fact, it was more disturbing than funny.... I was very happy to see Newfoundland protrayed in both the harshest elements (climate and emotions) as well as the feel of a loving community. Being from Newfoundland, and having to leave for employment reasons (same story as many other Newfoundlanders sad to say) I miss the Island, even after 25 years. This year I return with my youngest ch
Excellent film
Julianne Moore is A sweetheart and should get an Oscar for making this flick work. And it it does work!
