A movie that had so much potential. A movie that is based on a topic that is so important to Canadian history. Unfortunately, it was ruined and dominated by a sappy love story. What a shame!

This movie was an honest representation of Canadians in a time of great turmoil. Although the the love story was fictional, the war was all too real & it was well portrayed in the film. The war scenes looked like they were taken right out of WWI footage. Unfortunately, the demonstration on bigotry in some parts of the film were also very honest. I have a great deal of respect for this movie, not just because of the respect it pays to the sacrifices made by our ancestors, but also for it's honesty in reminding us that our "goodness" as Canadians that we are so proud of, can collapse to the ground if we take it for granted. It was a fabulous movie & in the years to come I will surely trea

Generally, very well done for a home-grown flick. In my opinion, not enough of the movie was devoted to the title subject-that is the battle. Story too focused on a love story and home-front aspect of WW1.

This was an absolutely BRUTAL movie. The acting left much to be desired and the chemistry between actors was nonexistant. There isn't a bit of history in this film. Individuals who know nothing of the battle at Passchendaele will walk away with no additional insight. It's a forced love story that fell far from the mark. I have never heard so many females laughing out loud at a sex scene in my life. Save your money!

I've read the reviews ... most seemed positive, but had to see the movie for myself. Well acted, excellent cinematography, battle scenes were realistic, with a love story to boot ... all from an impassioned Canadian who just had to make the film he felt compelled to make ... What more could you ask for. Well done Paul Gross! You did us proud! Added touch of movie clips from the period at the end credits showed both Canadian and German troops, which added credibility to the film you had just witnessed. Overall 5 out of 5 stars.

Wonderful cast and acting. Paul Gross outdid himself with the making of this movie.

I had been anticipating this film for a long time. As a history teacher, I was thrilled to know that a Canadian production of an important battle of W.W.I was soon to be released. I was disappointed to find a love story with little focus on the battle. I loathed the scene where the Germans stop firing to permit Dunne to carry his lover's brother to safety, a pathetic reanactment of Christ carrying the cross. The amorous relationship was greatly exaggerated. The film had been a great idea but it suffered the same Hollywood treatment that devalued Affleck's Pearl Harbor. Paul Gross should have stuck to the subject matter suggested by the title.

I would have prefered more of an emphasis on the battle with less of a love story. I also had a problem with the time lines - he was at Vimy, he was wounded, sent home and recovered, and then joined up again and still made it to Passchendaele. This is hard to believe. The depiction of the conditions at Passchendaele were very good, but I just wish they had spent more time on developing a better story line and better charactors.
