Guillermo del Toro talks about the the universal themes in his film The Shape of Water and how they’ve never been tackled in this way before. He says themes of embracing otherness are new for him but are very current themes in the world today and discusses how audiences spanning the globe and multiple generations react to The Shape of Water the same way. He also reveals that this is the first time a creature is the star of one of his films and talks about Doug Jones’ incredible acting as the creature.
