David Copperfield (Dev Patel) begins to recite his story onstage before turning and walking into a painted backdrop, which turns into reality. The film is a retelling of Copperfield’s life, from his life as a child to adulthood. Coming from a privileged upbringing, Copperfield must deal with the twists and turns handed to him, through his journey to becoming a writer.
