Bérénice Bejo Interview
The Artist is one of those special films that only come along once in a while. After critical and audience acclaim at the Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals, this silent film is garnering numerous nominations for the upcoming award season. Set in Hollywood in 1927, it focuses on a silent movie star who wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will cause him to fade into oblivion. Bérénice Bejo plays Peppy Miller, a wannabe actress who not only gets her big break in the movie business, but also starts up a relationship with her co-star. Bejo has already been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the Critic's Choice Awards and Golden Globes.
Bonnie Laufer spoke with Bérénice via satellite from London about her nominations, the challenges she faced making the film, and why she thinks audiences are embracing The Artist.
