In the second trailer for Star Trek Beyond, the crew of the USS Enterprise spends the entire trailer in outer space with no sign of the Planet Earth. This is a first for the new Star Trek movies.
We see Kirk staring at nearly built USS Enterprise from his motorcycle in rural Iowa. Years later it is the present and Bones and Kirk are discussing what exactly led the delinquent Kirk to join the stern humanitarian armada that is Star Fleet. "You spent all this time trying to be your father and now you're wondering just what it means to be you," Bones tells him.
In the depths of space a swarm of tiny ships breaches the Enterprise. Uhura says, "they're boarding us."
Sulu and Chekov are seen entering escape pods as Kirk tells everyone to "Abandon Ship." The crew of the Enterprise winds up on a foreign planet meeting both friends and enemies. Uhura tells her captor, "Our captain will come for us - mercy will be the last thing on his mind." The villain simply responds with "I'm counting on it."
Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) is introduced as she teams up with the scattered crew of the Enterprise. The crew is in a bad situation and Spock reasons, "Fear of death is illogical." Bones counters with "Fear of death is what keeps us alive." The crew finds a long-crashed NX-class ship and ventures out to save their people. There's even a touch of comedy in the trailer as Jaylah sits in the captain's chair, while the crew reacts in surprise at her actions. Scotty hisses, "He likes that seat."
