Lily (Susan Sarandon), who has a terminal illness, welcomes her two daughters Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Wasikowska) and their husbands home for a visit, but asks them if they can all behave "as normally as possible." Unfortunately, the truce doesn't last long as Jennifer and Anna aren't ready for what's about to happen to their mother.
