In this first trailer for Ad Astra, we meet Roy McBride (Brad Pitt), a second generation astronaut contemplating his next mission with his wife (Liv Tyler). He discusses his father Clifford (Tommy Lee Jones) and how he was a hero giving his life in the pursuit of knowledge. After a mysterious phenomenon called the Surge endangers his life during a mission, he awakens in hospital to the news that the Surge has had adverse effects on the planet. He is then briefed by the military on the true nature of his father's mission and is recruited to find him, discover the true circumstances of his disappearance, and if need be, destroy his father's project in order to save humanity.
