In the trailer for The Insult, we hear a voice saying Palestines have become despised everywhere. Meanwhile, a man hosing off his balcony gets water on construction workers below through a drainpipe. The construction workers cut off the pipe, and the man is later told his the pipe is illegal. This leads to a fight between the man and the construction boss, which results in one of them being stabbed. The fight mushrooms into a national upheaval in which Christians are pitted against Muslims.
