In the official trailer for the animated Miss Hokusai, we're transported to 1814 Edo, Japan. Several people in traditional Japanese robes walk the streets of the city and we see one man paint a huge Dharma on a giant sheet of paper as well as a pair of sparrows on a tiny rice grain. Many onlookers are impressed by his skill, and eventually we meet the painter's daughter. We are given a glimpse into their relationship and learn that he pressures her to follow in his footsteps.
We see the young woman, Miss Hokusai, tap into her artistic side, explore a romantic relationship and finally tell her father, "With two brushes and four chopsticks, we'll get by anywhere."
