In the first trailer for American Animals, the screen reads, “This is not based on a true story. This happened.” We meet four young men who are dissatisfied with their unexciting lives. Warren (Evan Peters) begins committing petty crimes, like stealing a frozen dinner, and then recruits the others for a task he promises will be “dangerous and very exciting.” They plan a heist to steal the most valuable book in the United States, worth $12 million, while disguised as old men.
