In 1914, Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep), a strong-willed woman, runs a coffee plantation in Kenya with her philandering husband (Klaus Maria Brandauer). To her astonishment, she soon discovers herself falling in love with the land, its people and a mysterious white hunter (Robert Redford).
Out of Africa was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, winning seven: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Art Direction-Set Direction, Best Sound, Best Screenplay Based on Material from another Medium.
