Très bien
Slow-paced and somewhat intellectual treatment of the breakdown of the 25yr marriage between two philosophers, one French and the other German. Where compromise worked well, new distractions and evolution bring about the end. Seems a bit EU. French films these days are very self-conscious and in pursuit of happy endings. The viewer is not so much drawn in as allowed to witness and in that, it is an interesting and sometimes enlightening experience. For some though it can come across as entitled and somnambulant. Isabelle Huppert is stressed and has lost much of what is important to her. Her relationship with her former student is somewhat inexplicable except to say that students are not carbon copies of their teachers and in fact may have greater appreciation of the world because they have so much more of it to live through.
