This movie has the makings of an epic but didn't quite get there. Maybe if I watch it again.... I got a bit confused with the ending, In his (Samual Jackson) pursuit to obtain, and keep secret the object of his desire (Red Violin) by passing off the fake as the real thing. Until he realises that it is painted with female human blood and hair making it a sacred object. That the knowledge and depth of responsibility started alarm bells. Not only of the fact that what he had done by swapping it, was illegal but also that it was imbued with a sort of supernatural aura maybe causing the obsessive desire. That he let it go. Put the real violin in the auction house and left with the fake, which he gave to his child...… or was it the other way round
one of my favourite movies
excellent movie, unusual & profound story, enjoyed it so much I went & bought it, a movie well worth keeping. Excellant performance by Samuel L. Johnson.
Powerful
What a brilliant way to leave behind a legacy of a loved one! The acting was superb and the music, even better. F.& P. S., Ottawa
Brilliant music, and great movie. Possibly the best movie soundtrack I`ve ever heard. The entire movie score is based on a simple melody sung in the beginning of the movie. The theme is then altered in the Baroque style, Classical, Gyspy, Romantic and Modern styles as the violin travels through history. Extremely well done.
FANTASTIC MOVIE!!!
Great movie
