Excellent movie, a mix of at least three distinct stories: The last emperor of the western roman empire mixed with the legend of King Arthur and his sword Ex Calibur, along with the tyrant Lord Vortgyn (Vortigern). A bit too much pathos occasionally, maybe yes, but not disturbing. Great casting, in particular Thomas Sangster as the young Romulus Augustus, embodying very well both the vulnerable young boy overwhelmed by his duties and the dignity of his role as the emperor of the western roman empire, and Ben Kingsley as his magical and cryptic teacher.
Seen it recently rather by accident, and liked it immediately. Based on the apparently true story of the last adolescent Caesar who was expelled from Rome by the Goths, making the stretch into the legend of King Arthur, it’s a likable story well told and put onto the silver screen (maybe a little bit too much pathos towards the end). Perfect casting, Colin Firth and Sir Ben Kingsley at their best, Nanny McPhee’s Thomas Sangster a great and convincing choice for the young Romulus Augustus Caesar, who has to grow from the overwhelmed boy not really fitting into the throne to the leader of what’s left of his empire. Great chemistry among the main actors, along with a good supporting cast. So, great entertainment overall, enjoyed it!
Love love this movie!! There is nothing bad that could be said that would change my mind! It is unfortunate that many do not see what all I do in it! And...it is clean!
A movie you have to watch often.
good movie close to gladiator in viewing enjoyment\
most interesting movie - see stories can be told without excessive nudity, sexually explicit or exteme gore - lack of profanity was also a treat.
very decent movie - the detractors would be the 6% that loved the Simpson Movie
No, a movie does not necessarily need top notch CGI or a huge budget. It needs a story - this movie doesn't have one. Greater movies were made for less money. I kept wondering what they spend the 70 million on (besides paying off the actors). Flat and boring. Those who agree - just nod your head. Those who don't - ....don't nod your head. Peace.
Somewhere in this slow moving film there is an interesting story.Unfortunately the film plodded along with very little passion or excitement.A larger budget might have helped and I think that the leads were embarrassed by the lame dialogue which shows in their acting.Stay home and watch 300 Spartans again.
Very good. Story, action and not too much gore!! Very very good acting!
