A Greek period film that has international appeal. It brings to life the multicultural city of Smyrna, the tragic end of Greeks in Asia Minor and the plight of refugee's. I have read the history but the movie added so much more on an emotional level. Well acted with award winning performances.
The movie is based on true historical events of Smyrna, a cosmopolitan city where different nationalities/ethnicities/religions coexisted happily... until global politics changed everything. Like millions of Greeks, Armenians, and other Smyrna-born families, some of my family members were massacred... and some survived. Watching the many trailers of this movie, we recognized images, settings, and lifestyles that our grandparents described. This is a new movie, yet we longed to see these settings, for decades now. Thank you.
