The story of Nanking is little known or studied in American history. The movie tells a bit of it, the unsophisticated Chinese are occupied by the Japanese, and the towns men use booby traps to thwart the enemy. It was cleverly interlaced with some cartoons. Kids can watch some kung-fu without the gore of war, but the buffoonery may be too much. I would have liked some more wins for China. But they did blow up the bridge, which was great, but it was frustrating in that I couldn't help but compare to the Bridge over the River Kwai. A hugely successful dramatic film of the Japanese pow camp in Burma. The Chinese resistance in the movie were very difficult to watch after awhile, and I was near to yelling at them to : 'shoot' and 'blow it up dammit'. Not to mention "burn the entire warehouse down' etc. But all in all they accomplished their goal. Whew!
