I was impressed. It didn't show Jesse as perfect (ie: the cheating on the mother of his child), but it was really well made. I liked how you have the head of the US Olympic committee pitted against head of the Olympic committee and their opposing steadfast views. One was really trying to hold the ideals of the Olympics and let the athletes compete. While the other was trying to stick with the reform of America and letting Jewish and black athletes compete (even though "when was the last time he played a round of golf with a jew or a negro?" ) That was interesting to watch. And seeing the head of the Olympic committee force the German gov to do things properly. Jesse was great. But the relationship between he and his wife was patched up too quick and easy. Otherwise, loved the struggle between training, school, and working to send money home to family. And of course the rough coach with a heart of gold.
Excellent film. Liked it better than Chariots Of Fire. Nice to see Jason Sudakis in a much more serious role instead of the fouled mouth character he has has too often played such as in the Horrible Bosses movies. A powerful and touching story of perseverence and ultimate success. The race scenes were excellent. This film is Oscar worthy as far as I am concerned.
Well done.
Great movie .... Better than expected .... Good acting .... I think everyone in the theatre enjoyed it .... *****
Right place, wrong time...sums it up. That said lucky for Owens Mr Bolt was not around in those days. With the inspiration to run fast back then was beyond anything that will ever exist again...Bolt would have run under 9 seconds and made Jesse(who was a smoker, joke right?...some example) and every other man look like little boys in his prowess. This the truth. Hiltler would have soiled himself at that sight.
Excellent story of Jesse Owens. Very interesting in the back drop of all the political drama of 1936 world politics, racism and Germany held Olympics. Well worth seeing, take the kids, hidden history lessons!
loved this movie--long but not draggy....4 1/2 age 70+
A must see movie by all. Great job for the whole team involved. Looking forward to such films.
A first class movie of a great athlete. Shows the racism of the USA, and the crazy idea of Adolph Hitler that the Arian German race was superior, and those of color inferior. Very personal and heart-tugging, as well as inspiring. A part of history that should never be forgotten. There is a shocking sentence thrown up on the screen at the end, to do with a famous house in the USA.
Best movie I've seen for a long time. Great acting, storyline and history. Surely a contender for the awards next year.
