Wonderful, exquisite film about four Japanese sisters and their family drama and happiness by the acclaimed director Hirokazu Kore-eda. Like the earlier generation including Naruse and Ozu, there isn't a lot of plot but tremendous generosity of feeling and accommodation. What action there is focuses on the sisters and other women around them. Men are supporting characters but do generate interest in their own right. Exceptional photography and study of Japanese life straddling post-modernism and tradition.
