Greatest civil war movie ever made. Absolutely compelling in the authentic portrayal and feelings of the black soldiers who were so willing to die for their country, a country that had, after all, emancipated them--the USA. Amazing. Broderick is great, Denzel is superb, Morgan Freeman's breakout movie. Bring some facial tissue.
Excellent for anyone 13 and over. The film tells an important story about Black soldiers during the south's treasonous rebellion to preserve slavery as the economic base for their region. The director took the wise step in not making it a story about white saviors leading the soldiers, but instead the story is of the soldiers' strength, bravery, humility and pride.
