Boring, even 40 years later
It's a CLASSIC ! So many quotable lines. Loved the original & pull out the DVD often to re-watch it.
This is the original. Seeing it for the 2nd time I feel very differently about it. I found it rather silly this time. I thought the actors overacted and the "space" talk reminded me of a hearing test we all took in elementary school. Then I realized that the space creatures actually were a bunch of kidnappers, and that the humans were pretty dumb to hitch a ride with them. The appearance of the awful looking, super thin, spidery creature should be a clue that things will be different. The presence of a bunch of French scientists was to give things an "international" zing, while the group of monks in India faithfully repeating these international-intergalactic tones was yet another feel good trap. The scientists all change into red jumpsuits as a Catholic priest sends them off to their ride with reassurances of angels. While small chubby aliens escort Dryfus into a spaceship where untold horrors may await. The sequel should have been about the little boy, as an adult, telling us all just what went on in outer space. But there wasn't a sequel.
Spielberg's best since E.T.
Historic ground breaking movie. I saw it 40 years ago. I still think it's great. I wish they would have made sequels especially with all the special effect capabilities we have now. Glad there wasn 't armed military around when the saucer landed.
It's a remake nobody asked for.
The original movie was excellent. Is this the original or a remake?
It'll be great to see it on the BIG SCREEN again!
