Excellent movie, hard-hitting and thought provoking. Very impressive direction, music and dialogue. The script writers and composers are very talented individuals. Superb acting by Vidya Balan (and all others), the chief protagonist. Her best performance so far. Refreshingly, this is not a usual Bollywood production with a lot of unnecessary dances and mindless, colourful imagery/special effects that we have become accustomed to. This movie depicts a glimpse into the events of India's partition. Drawing of an arbitrary line by an official, who had no knowledge of the regions of India, that the rulers set out to partition, is well documented in history. The other events shown, too, are authentic, namely the status and struggles of women. Most impressive is the thoughtful dedication to poets/philosophers, Ismat Chugtai and Manto, and inclusion of the last song--an inspiring poem by Sahir Ludhianvi. I hope the readers of this review will know what I am talking about!
