Theatre Title: JIAN DANG WEI YE aka: Beginning of the Great Revival (???? - Jiàn Dang Wei Yè) Well, I finally saw it, much better than I expected, and worth the see for all; a movie told from the perspective of the Chinese, more than from merely the Red Communists of China. China, from being in a position of weakness, humiliation, and violence, fought to finally coming out of the past and looking to the future. It reminded me of the humiliation I often felt being born out here in the West; but hopefully the future is better everywhere. The story serves as a historical primer to the Chinese people as to where they came from and hopefully where they can go in the future.
Um, walked into the only theatre showing 'Beginning of the Great Revival', and it wasn't even listed, so I had to find out amongst numerous other foreign films amongst which were both Chinese and Indian movies. This movie is titled such that if I don't have never seen or understand the meaning of the title, I wouldn't know it is the same movie. It was listed as: "Jian Dang Wei Ye". I ignored it because I thought maybe it was a newer Chinese movie (an action movie?), and so I dismissed it. So much for appealing to local Canadian audience here! NOT! :P I heard it was a propaganda film that showed only the positive side to the Chinese Communist beginnings, so I was curious. The Chinese titl
a great introduction to the recent 100 years history of China : a sad story of civil wars, pain, shame, and sub-colonization, to awakening, self-renewal, revolutions, wars, and eventual founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 !
