ZOE KRAVITZ
Date of Birth: December 1, 1988
Zoë Kravitz was no stranger to the glamorous world of Hollywood as a child. She was born in Los Angeles to a famous couple: her father is musician Lenny Kravitz, and her mother is actress Lisa Bonet. Both her paternal grandparents also came from an acting background: grandfather Sy Kravitz was a filmmaker, and her grandmother was actress Roxie Roker. Zoë’s parents divorced in 1993, and she lived with her mother until age 11. After that, she lived with her father and spent the summers with her mother. As a young girl, Zoë attended school in Miami but eventually graduated in 2007 from Rudolf Steiner School in New York. After that, she began her studies at the acting conservatory at SUNY Purchase College, but dropped out one year later and moved to Brooklyn to pursue an acting career.
Zoë’s acting career started when she was still a senior in high school. She made her feature film debut in No Reservations (2007), starring Catherine Zeta-Jones. She continued to work with major Hollywood players that same year, landing a role in The Brave One (2007) opposite Jodie Foster and Terrence Howard. Zoë’s lucky casting streak continued with roles in several films opposite prominent actors, including Assassination of a High School President (2008) alongside Bruce Willis and The Greatest (2009) starring Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon. In 2010, she appeared in two films: It’s Kind of a Funny Story and Twelve, which were both onscreen adaptations of novels.
Zoë boasts an impressive resumé full of performances of all kinds: romance, comedy, indie and more. She finally got a taste of action in the prequel X-Men: First Class (2011) as one of the teenage mutants and then in After Earth (2013) opposite Will and Jaden Smith. Zoë landed a supporting role in the buzzed-about trilogy Divergent, which is the first of three installments. She followed the credit with the sequel Allegiant in 2016. She also starred in the action-packed, Oscar-winning film Mad Max: Fury Road and Good Kill (2015).
Her later credits include Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), The LEGO Batman Movie, the HBO series Big Little Lies, and the female-driven comedy Rough Night with Scarlett Johansson and Kate McKinnon. More recently, she can be seen in Gemini (2017), Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) and Kin (2018).
Aside from acting, Zoë has appeared in a couple of music videos, including Jay-Z’s “I Know” in 2008 and will.i.am’s “We Are the Ones” alongside a slew of other stars. Zoë has also modeled for several magazines, including prominent fashion magazine Elle. She was also the face of several Vera Wang fragrances, and starred in a fashion campaign for designer Alexander Wang in 2010.
For an actress with many talents, it’s no surprise that Zoë is also a musician. In 2009 she started her own band called Elevator Fight, in which she was the lead singer and co-writer. Zoë also enjoyed a brief TV acting career, having appeared on a few episodes of Californication.
Besides having famous parents and grandparents, Zoë also has a famous stepfather and godmother: Jason Momoa and Marisa Tomei, respectively. She currently resides in New York City.
