Xochitl Gomez-Deines was born in Los Angeles, California. She started acting at the age of five when her mother enrolled her in musical theater class. By the time she turned 12, she had acted in 22 productions. She realized early on that she loved performing.

After school, Xochitl's mom would drive her around town for auditions, sometimes four or five in one night. She acted in short films and commercials and eventually landed small roles on the TV shows Raven's Home (2017), You’re The Worst (2014), and Gentefied (2020).

Xochitl won numerous awards for her work in the short film, Boob Sweat (2018), including Best Young Actress at the Los Angeles Actors Awards and the New York Film Awards, and Best Child/Young Actress at the London Independent Film Awards and the Indie Short Fest Awards.

Xochitl’s performance in her first feature film, Shadow Wolves (2019), earned her a Young Artist Award for Supporting Teen Artist.

Her breakout role was as Dawn Schafer on the Netflix series The Baby-sitters Club (2020), an adaptation of the beloved novels by Ann M. Martin. For her work on the show, she won a 2021 Young Entertainer Award in the Best Leading Young Actress - Television Series category. Xochitl left the show after the first season, having been offered a part by Marvel Studios.

She was cast as America Chavez, a young girl with the power to travel to other universes, in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). The character was originally supposed to be around 18 years old, however Xochitl’s audition impressed the team so much, they adjusted America’s age to be younger.

Since age 11, Xochitl has trained in the martial arts and is currently working towards earning her black belt.

Xochitl is dyslexic and goes over her scripts multiple times to truly understand the scenes. In her spare time, she enjoys watching reality TV shows, considering them her guilty pleasure.
