Tony Gilroy
TONY GILROY

Born in Manhattan and raised in upstate New York, Tony Gilroy is the son of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and filmmaker Frank D. Gilroy.
Prior to making his directorial debut with Michael Clayton (2007) starring George Clooney, Gilroy was already an acclaimed screenwriter. He has written several highly successful films including the international blockbusters The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, as well as The Bourne Ultimatum, all starring Matt Damon, as well as Proof of Life starring Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan, The Devil's Advocate (1997) starring Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves, and Extreme Measures (1996) starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Gilroy's debut film as a director, Michael Clayton, was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Achievement in Directing and Best Motion Picture of the Year. His second feature, Duplicity (2009), earned his leading actress, Julia Roberts, a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
Tony's two brothers are also in the business—Dan Gilroy is a screenwriter and John Gilroy is a film editor. He brought them both on board to work on his third film as a director, The Bourne Legacy (2012), the fourth movie in the Bourne franchise but the first one without its lead character, Jason Bourne (previously played by Matt Damon). Tony expanded the Bourne world to create a sequel that no one expected, starring a new agent, Aaron Cross, played by Jeremy Renner. The film also starred Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.
