Born in New Jersey to a Russian-Jewish mother and Italian father, Sofia Black D'Elia first explored acting during her senior year of high school. She recognized her passion for the craft and studied at The William Esper Studio under the tutelage of Bill Esper.

She kick-started her career on a high note playing Bailey Wells in 28 episodes of the long-standing, Emmy-winning All My Children between 2009-10.

Sofia followed that up by portraying Tia Marvelli in three episodes of the 2011 mini-series Skins Webisodes and in all 10 episodes of its expanded series Skins, also in 2011.

She took a guest role on the Blake Lively and Leighton Meester-led Gossip Girl in 2012, playing Sage Spence in nine episodes of the show.

Sofia launched her film career in 2013 with The Immigrant alongside Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner. The film went on to be recognized with nominations and wins at several festivals and award ceremonies.

She stuck with film, taking a lead role in the 2014 action thriller Born of War and the 2015 sci-fi thriller Project Almanac.

In 2015, Sofia returned to TV for a recurring role on the fantasy drama The Messengers.

She starred in the sci-fi horror film Viral in the summer of 2016, and Ben-Hur, the late 2016 reboot of the 1959 Oscar-winning classic of the same name. Sofia was introduced to a wider audience than ever before by playing Tirzah in the action drama, which also starred Jack Huston, Morgan Freeman and Toby Kebbell.

Sofia, who describes her style as "a bit tomboyish, but sometimes flirty," points to the travel opportunities acting provides as one of the most exciting perks.

She says she just can't live without her brother Kyle, who's five years her senior.
