SKYLAR ASTIN

Date of Birth: September 23, 1987

Skylar Astin Lipstein was raised in Rockland County, New York. When he was 15, his agent decided he should use his middle name, Astin, as his last name. He first gained acclaim for his performance as Georg in the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening. He’s best known for playing the romantic lead Jesse opposite Anna Kendrick in the 2012 movie Pitch Perfect.

Skylar has a sister, Brielle, and a brother, Milan. Following high school he studied at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University but had to take an immediate leave of absence when cast in Spring Awakening.

Skylar played Rand Posin in the feature film comedy Hamlet 2, starring Steve Coogan. He sang “Raped in the Face” on the soundtrack along with co-star Phoebe Strole. When the movie screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, it led to Skylar signing with the United Talent Agency.

In 2012, he played the romantic lead opposite Anna Kendrick in Pitch Perfect, which was a hit with audiences. A sequel was soon ordered, called Pitch Perfect 2, in which Skylar reprised his role. He also stars on the TBS TV comedy series Ground Floor, playing Brody.

Before his rise to fame, Skylar worked in the deli of a natural foods store called Back to Earth in New York City. He is currently dating his Pitch Perfect co-star, Anna Camp.
