Canadian actress Sarah Chalke started her acting career at the tender age of eight in musical theater. She would grow up to star in two majorly successful sitcoms: Roseanne and Scrubs. Over her two-decade long career, she's appeared in a slew of television shows and movies, and her career shows no signs of slowing down.

Born in Ottawa and raised in Vancouver, Sarah and her two sisters were born to a German mother, Angela, and a Canadian father, Douglas. Performing was ingrained in Sarah very early on, as she transitioned from early musical theater to reporting on the Canadian children's show Kidzone at 12.

Her big break came in 1993 when she replaced Lecy Goranson as the eldest Conner daughter Rebecca on the hit show Roseanne. During this time Sarah also made her feature film debut in Ernest Goes to School (1994). Goranson eventually returned to Roseanne, after which Sarah made a cameo appearance in one episode as another character. However, Sarah again took over the role after Goranson left for a second time. The show ended its run in 1997, and the young actress returned to Canada to star in the short-lived series Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy (1998).

She made a handful of guest appearances on TV shows before landing her most high-profile role to date on the NBC comedy Scrubs in 2001, alongside Zach Braff and Donald Faison. She played Dr. Elliot Reid throughout the series' entire nine season run.

Television has proven to be Sarah's most successful medium, having appeared in over 20 TV shows over her career. She had a high-profile recurring role in the comedy How I Met Your Mother from 2008 to 2013, and starring roles in the one-season-long Mad Love (2011) and in How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) (2013).

Despite being committed to her full-time schedule in Scrubs, as well as her other television appearances, Sarah has also earned roles in a handful of independent movies, including Alchemy (2005), Cake (2005) alongside Diane Keaton, Chaos Theory (2007) alongside Ryan Reynolds and Mama's Boy (2007).

Not only is Sarah a talented actress, she's also an avid philanthropist and activist. She has publicly encouraged breast cancer detection and prevention, and starred in the Lifetime movie Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy (2006) after the loss of both her aunt and grandmother to the disease. She was the 2009 ambassador for the Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink for the Cure program, and is also an ambassador for the Audrey Hepburn Children's Foundation.

Sarah is currently dating lawyer Jamie Afifi, with whom she has a five-year-old son named Charlie. In April 2016, the couple announced they are expecting their second child. Her most recent appearance on the big screen was in the 2016 romantic comedy Mother's Day, alongside Kate Hudson and Jennifer Aniston.
