Samara Weaving
Date of Birth: February 23, 1992
Like many other actors, Samara Weaving moved around a lot during her childhood, from her birthplace of Adelaide in Australi to Fiji, Indonesia and Singapore, before returning to Australia in her early teens.
The niece of famed actor Hugo Weaving and the daughter of director/writer Simon Weaving, it wasn't a surprise that she followed them into the business. At age 16, Samara landed a recurring role on the BBC-TV half-hour drama series Out of the Blue, appearing in 48 episodes in 2008. The following year, she landed the role of Indi Walker on the long-running Australian series Home and Away. The job lasted four years until 2013, when Samara made her feature film debut opposite her uncle Hugo in Mystery Road (2013), before slowly beginning to transition to American productions such as Monster Trucks (2016) and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017).
Although she was playing a starring role as Nelson Rose on the Showtime series SMILF from 2017 to 2019, during hiatus from the show she flew back to Australia to also star in the six-episode TV mini-series Picnic at Hanging Rock (2018).
She left SMILF after a nude sex scene was written into the script for her character, despite her having a no-nudity clause in her contract. She also complained that the star and creator of the show had pulled down her top and ordered that outside video monitors be turned on during a sex scene, despite it being a closed set, which meant that the monitors had to be off and only a limited crew would be present.
Samara has also starred in a couple of horror films, playing a lead role in the Netflix film The Babysitter (2017) and the starring role as a newlywed who marries into a sinister family in the Canadian-filmed Ready or Not (2019). She also plays a role in the long-awaited sequel, Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020).
Samara's younger sister, Morgan Weaving, is also an actor.
