ROSEMARIE DEWITT

Date of Birth: October 26, 1974

Born in Flushing, Queens, New York to mother Rosemarie Braddock and father Kenny DeWitt, Rosemarie DeWitt began her acting career by participating in high school plays. A member of the Alpha Phi sorority, DeWitt then attended Hofstra University in Long Island, New York where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in creative studies. She then went to The Actors Center in New York to further perfect her craft.

Following completion of her training, Rosemarie performed in a variety of Off-Broadway plays. Most well-known are her appearances in George S. Kaufman's The Butter and Egg Man, John Patrick Shanley's Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and Craig Lucas' Small Tragedy, whose cast received an Obie Award. DeWitt has been seen onstage most recently at the MCC Theater's Off-Broadway play Family Week. Her 2010 performance was said to have "many affecting moments" by the New York Times. DeWitt has also made a name for herself in television starting with guest appearances and small roles in popular shows such as Sex and the City and Mad Men. These then led to regular roles in series such as Standoff and United States of Tara.

Rosemarie, however, was not the first in her family to make a name for herself. Granddaughter to James J. Braddock, the fighter Cinderella Man (2005) was based on, she clearly had big shoes to fill. Taking a small role as Sara Wilson in the film, she did her grandfather justice and made sure to have a part in showing the world what a great man he was. She has also appeared in films such as Margaret (2011) opposite Anna Paquin and Mark Ruffalo, and The Company Men (2010), as wife to Ben Affleck. Most likely, DeWitt secured these roles because of her outstanding and arguably best performance on the silver screen alongside Anne Hathaway in Rachel Getting Married (2008), for which she received several critics' awards and a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress.

For her role in this film alone, DeWitt received the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress - Motion Picture and the Award for Best Supporting Actress from the Toronto Film Critics Association, the Utah Film Critics Association, the Vancouver Film Critics Circle and the Washington D.C Area Film Critics Association. She also received nominations for the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Cast, Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actress, Detroit Film Critics Society Award for Best Supporting Actress, Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Ensemble Cast, Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Actor and Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female.

Some of her roles include Brenda Best in Disney's The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012), Mrs. Trautwig in the comedy The Watch (2012) and the part of Alice opposite Matt Damon in Promised Land (2013). She also played a part in Touchy Feely(2013) alongside Ellen Page. More recently, she starred in Kill the Messenger (2014), Poltergeist (2015), and alongside Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in Damien Chazelle's La La Land (2016). Her latest credit is a role in the film Sweet Virginia (2017).

Rosemarie and Standoff co-star Ron Livingston were married in 2009, but do not have any children.
