ROBERT ISCOVE
Date of Birth: July 4, 1947
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Robert Iscove started out as a choreographer. He studied dance at Juilliard and began as an assistant to the late Broadway director/choreographer Michael Bennett. Iscove made his film debut as the choreographer on fellow Canadian Norman Jewison's musical feature Jesus Christ Superstar (1973). He went on to choreograph several specials for TV before making his directorial debut in 1978 with Mary Tyler Moore's variety show, Mary. Iscove then progressed to directing TV drama series such as Miami Vice and Canadian-filmed series such as Wiseguy, 21 Jump Street and My Secret Identity before making his feature film directing debut with the hit comedy She's All That (1999), starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook.
He teamed up with Freddie Prinze again with Boys and Girls (2000), but the film didn't prove to be as big a success as their first movie. Iscove returned to television to direct the TV movie Firestarter 2: Rekindled (2002), before returning to the big screen with From Justin to Kelly (2003), the feature that reunited the two original American Idol finalists from the hit TV talent series.
In addition to his extensive film and television work, Iscove also directed and choreographed the 1979 Broadway production of Peter Pan starring Sandy Duncan. He won Emmy and Peabody Awards for his direction of Dorothy Hamill in Romeo & Juliet on Ice.
His two sons, David (guitarist) and Adam (lead singer), are members of the Los Angeles-based rock band AllRise.
