RINKO KIKUCHI

Born in Kanagawa, Japan, Rinko Kikuchi began her career at the age of 15 with modeling and television commercials, but she soon moved on to feature films, making her debut in Ikitai (1999).
In 2002, Kukuchi made her stage debut in 2002 in the play Suigin directed by Hidehisa Tachibana.
By 2004, she was such a hot commodity that she appeared in four feature films. Kukuchi made her international debut in Babel (2006), starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. Playing a deaf teenager dealing with the guilt of her mother's suicide, she received a Best Supporting Actress award from the Chicago Film Critics Association; a Best Breakthrough Performance award from the National Board of Review; a Golden Globe nomination and an Academy Award nomination.
In 2013, she starred alongside Charlie Hunnam in Guillermo del Toro's sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim and then reprised her role in the sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising (2018).
Amongst her skills, Kukuchi lists motorcycle driving, horseback riding and sword-fighting.
