Date of Birth: November 2, 1974
Born Cornell Haynes Jr. in Austin, Texas, after his parents split up when he was seven, Nelly lived with various family members. In high school he became interested in rapping and formed his own group called the St. Lunatics. Following a minor success with the group, Nelly went solo and signed a record deal with Universal Records. His first album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 40, and he received two Grammy Award nominations in 2001, for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Solo Performance. He has since had much success with subsequent recordings and won numerous music awards.
Named one of People Magazine's Breakthrough Stars of 2001, Nelly made his film debut that year in the low budget thriller Snipes. He followed it up with a supporting role in the big budget comedy The Longest Yard (2005), starring Adam Sandler and Chris Rock.
An unmarried father, Nelly has a daughter, Chanel, and a son, Tre.
