Michiel Huisman

Michiel was born in Amstelveen, Holland and is a Dutch actor, musician and singer-songwriter.
Michiel started his career in television when he made appearances on a number of Dutch shows and telepics from 1997 to 2010, including starring roles on series such as Costa! (reprising his role from the original 2001 movie), Spangen, Meiden van de Wit, in the role of Boudewijn Peuts, Bloedverwanten as Martijn Zwager and De co-assistent as Hugo Biesterveld.
He also had a career in the music industry when he started a Dutch band called Fontane. The band released a number of singles in the early 2000s, and when they split up, Michiel pursued a career as a solo artist. He released singles in 2005 and 2006 while also continuing to build a solid acting career on TV and in films.
Michiel's acting career took on a new direction when he made his way onto the American entertainment scene. On television, he has starred in the HBO series Treme from 2010 to 2013, was a recurring actor on the show Nashville from 2012 to 2014 and plays a recurring role on Orphan Black as Cal Morrison, the biological father of the lead character's (played by Tatiana Maslany) daughter. He may be most widely known for portraying Daario Naharis on the popular HBO show Game of Thrones.
During breaks from his busy television schedule, Michiel has fit in the time to appear in several Hollywood movies opposite A-list stars, such as World War Z (2013) with Brad Pitt, Wild (2014) with Reese Witherspoon, and The Age of Adeline (2015), in which he co-starred opposite Blake Lively. Returning to work in Canada, he played the role of Father Gaston in the feature Indian Horse (2018).
Michiel is married to Dutch actress Tara Edwards. They live in New Orleans with their young daughter.
