MATTHEW KEESLAR

Matthew Keesler was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and graduated from high school in 1991. He then moved to New York City, where he attended the prestigious Julliard School for three years.

He first appeared onscreen in 1994 with bit parts in two major films, Penny Marshall's Renaissance Man, with Mark Wahlberg and Robert Redford's Quiz Show, with Ralph Fiennes. The following year, he won his first major role in a small movie called The Run of the Country, an Irish production co-starring Albert Finney, about a young man at odds with his recently widowed father. The film earned respectable reviews, but was little seen away from the art houses. Keeslar's next two films, The Stupids (1996) and Mr. Magoo (1997), failed to utilize his talents ­ in addition to being box office bombs.

Keeslar turned in praised performances in smaller, high-profile independent films, such as Waiting for Guffman (1996), in which he played a hunky mechanic, and in Sour Grapes (1998), in which he played a spoiled actor who surgically loses his manhood. Keeslar's most widely seen film during this period was Whit Stillman's The Last Days of Disco (1998), in which he played an up-and-coming lawyer who falls for Chloe Sevigny.

A role in Gregg Araki's Splendor (1999) was his next project. The film was about a problematic love triangle that co-starred Jonathon Schaech and Kathleen Robertson. Splendor was followed by higher profile projects such as Scream 3 (2000) and Texas Rangers (2001).
