Mason Thames is an actor whose career has been on the rise over the past couple of years. He began acting at the age of 11, but his love for performing started at an early age while he was studying ballet. He was selected to perform with a professional international ballet company as the youngest member of the cast.
Mason’s first official role came on the Apple TV+ series For All Mankind. He played the role of Daniel Stevens for three episodes during the series’ first season. In 2021, he played a young Walker on the CW series Walker starring Jared Padalecki, a reboot of the 1990s series Walker, Texas Ranger.
That same year he made his feature film debut in Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone (2021) alongside Ethan Hawke. Derrickson said that Mason had a gift that very actors had, including adult professional actors, which was the ability to truthfully and emotionally process every moment without overacting. His performance received widespread praise, and he was nominated Best Performance by a Younger Actor/Actress at the Saturn Awards. Mason is set to reprise his role of Finney in The Black Phone 2 (2025).
In 2024, he starred in a pair of films—Incoming, a coming-of-age story about four high-school freshmen’s first party, and Monster Summer—a film with Mel Gibson about a group of kids who team up with a retired police detective to save their home from a monster.
Also in 2025, he took on the lead role of Hiccup in How to Train Your Dragon, the live-action adaptation of the 2010 animated film. Co-star Nick Frost praised his performance and specifically highlighted his comedy chops, saying that he has funny bones. ~Ryan Donahue
