LORETTA DEVINE

Date of Birth: August 21, 1949

Loretta Devine graduated from the University of Houston in 1971 with a BA in Speech and Drama and Brandeis University in 1976 with a MFA in Theater.

She originated role of Lorell in the Broadway stage production of Dreamgirls.

Devine also has many TV and feature film credits, including making a cameo in the film version of Dreamgirls. For her work on the TV series Boston Public she won three Image awards in 2003, 2004 and 2001) and she also shared a Black Reel Award with the rest of the cast of Crash (2004), for Best Ensemble.

Devine played Cynthia in Death at a Funeral (2010) and is also one of the stars of For Colored Girls (2010), based on the Broadway play. Most recently, she starred in Welcome To Me (2015).
