Liv Tyler is the daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steve Tyler. But she didn't always knows know this. Her mother, former Ford Model and Playboy Playmate Bebe Buell had an eight month affair with Tyler that resulted in Liv. But Tyler grew up thinking her mother's long-time boyfriend, musician Todd Rundgren, was actually her father. In any case, one look at Tyler's lips and you have to know where she got those from. Combine that ever-so-full and suggestive mouth with a five-foot-ten frame, piercing blue eyes, and flawless porcelain skin and you can see why Bernardo Bertolucci wanted her to star in his film Stealing Beauty, about an American girl who discovers herself while on vacation in Italy.
"Bernardo gave me a sense of confidence," she says, "because I've never studied acting or taken classes before. I just keep thinking every day how lucky I was."
Tyler's mother, by her own admission, once had relationships with a whole HMV store of musicians including Mick Jagger, Elvis Costello, Jimmy Page, David Bowie, and Rod Stewart. Regardless of her mother's rather profligate past, she raised a remarkable level-headed daughter who says, "I pride myself on keeping centered."
Liv, a vegetarian who hates piercings and tatoos, married musician Royston Langdon on March 25, 2003. They have a young son named Milo.
Although she hasn't been in the public spotlight much in recent years, she's still been keeping busy. In December 2011, Liv collaborated with Givenchy perfumes and Sony Music and in February 2012, she released her cover of the hit INXS song "Need You Tonight." She also starred in the 2012 comedy film Robot & Frank.
In 2014, Liv played a supporting role in Jamie Marks Is Dead and a lead role in Space Station 76 with Patrick Wilson. That same year, she began appearing as a regular on the HBO television series The Leftovers. She played the character of Meg Abbott for 22 episodes over three seasons, ending in 2017.
She then appeared alongside Kit Harington in the HBO miniseries Gunpowder and played Amelia Earhart in the short film Falling Up.
In 2018, she joined the cast of the Hulu drama series Harlots. She played Lady Isabella Fitzwilliam for 16 episodes during the second and third seasons, ending in 2019. That year, she co-starred opposite Brad Pitt in the film Ad Astra (2019), which received positive reviews from critics.
In 2020, she began a starring role as Michelle Blake on the Fox procedural drama series 9-1-1: Lone Star. She left the show after the first season.
Liv then went on an acting hiatus until 2025 when she reprised her role as Betty Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, 15 years after her initial appearance in The Incredible Hulk (2008).
