LARENZ TATE

Date of Birth: September 8, 1975

The youngest of three brothers, Tate was born in Chicago, Illinois. Moving to California in 1984 with his family, it was his parents who got him and his brothers involved in drama at the Inner City Culture Center. The three were soon inspired to take on an acting career after witnessing one of their classmates land a role on the popular series, The Cosby Show.

After landing a small role on the series The Twilight Zone - The Series, the door to the acting world was opened and Tate found roles laying at his feet. He jumped first into television with regular gigs in the series New Attitude, The Royal Family (for which he was nominated for a Best Young Artist Award) and South Central. He also took roles in telefilms like Seeds of Tragedy.

In 1993 he made his feature film debut with a starring role in the film Menace II Society. More starring roles poured in with Dead Presidents (1995), Love Jones (1997) and The Postman (1997). Although nominated for a Black Film Award for his work in Love Jones, it wasn't until his starring role in Why do Fools Fall in Love (1998) that won him the honor from the Acapulco Black Film Festival.

Since then, he has played lead roles in films such as Biker Boyz (2003), A Man Apart and Crash (2005). He also played Quincy Jones in the Oscar-winning biopic, Ray (2004).
