KIM BASINGER

Date of Birth: December 8, 1953

This Georgia (Athens) peach finally got the recognition for her acting talents that she deserves when she brought home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in L.A. Confidential. Before that she was just another pretty face in Hollywood that no one took too seriously. Not that she'd been in that many films where you could take her seriously.

Although she was sexy and desirable in 9 1/2 Weeks, the film was really more notorious than notable. She was also great in Batman, but, again, not a real serious film. It wasn't until L.A. Confidential that Basinger really got to strut her stuff in a serious film where she could do some serious acting.

At the same time, Basinger faced several problems in her personal life. The most newsworthy was the multi-million dollar law suit that she had to face (and then lost and had to pay millions to settle) regarding her supposed agreement to star in Boxing Helena that she then reneged on.

She divorced Alec Baldwin in 2002 amid allegations of physical abuse, and they share custody of their daughter, Ireland. However, in spite of her troubles, she says, "I'm a hugely positive person. All the negativity that's been around me has given me more to give. All these trials and tribulations are nothing but: Okay, I think you can do this. And you get over that hump. You get cuts and scrapes, but guess what?—they clear up.

"I consider everything I've been through just a gift. I really do. I wouldn't trade anything, no matter how good, or bad, or difficult. I'm the luckiest girl in the world as far as I'm concerned."

Following her separation from Alec, she appeared in the drama The Door in the Floor (2004) with fellow Oscar winner Jeff Bridges, the thriller Cellular (2004) with Chris Evans and Jason Statham, the drama The Burning Plain (2008) with Charlize Theron, and the thriller The Informers (2008) with Billy Bob Thornton.

Kim's latest credits include Grudge Match (2013) with Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone, The Nice Guys (2016) with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, and Fifty Shades Darker with Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.

Basinger has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7021 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles. A strict vegetarian, she devotes time to animal rights issues, and has posed for ads for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
