KEVIN RODNEY SULLIVAN

Date of Birth: c. 1962

A native of San Francisco, Kevin Rodney Sullivan began his career onstage as a child actor. He gradually began to get work on television as well, enjoying a recurring role as Tommy on Happy Days from 1980 to 1983, as well as a guest appearance on The Facts of Life and roles in films such as More American Graffiti (1979), Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and Night Shift (1982). By the end of the 1980s, he'd begun to make a name for himself as a television writer/director, working on shows such as Fame and Frank's Place. His success prompted ABC TV to ask him to create his own primetime drama. He executive produced, wrote and directed Knightwatch, which debuted in the fall of 1988.

Sullivan made his feature film directing debut with How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998). The film swept the NAACP Image Awards for that year, including being named Outstanding Motion Picture. Since then, Sullivan has directed episodes of The West Wing, The Guardian, Watching Ellie and CBS-TV's The Henry Lee Project, starring Danny Glover. In 2004, Sullivan's second feature, Barbershop 2: Back in Business -- the sequel to the box office hit Barbershop -- was released, starring Ice Cube and Queen Latifah.

Sullivan lives in the Los Angeles area.
