JEZ BUTTERWORTH
Date of Birth: 1969
A native of London, Butterworth was raised in St. Albans and was educated at Cambridge. Inspired by the works of Preston Sturges, Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond, Butterworth started his career writing for the stage, but always had an eye for film.
He landed his first chance in the mid-'90s after writing the feature length screenplay, Mojo. Released in 1997, the film, based on his award-winning stage play of the same name, was officially selected for the 1998 Venice Film Festival, yet had mixed reactions from both critics and viewers alike.
Butterworth made his second attempt with the feature, Birthday Girl (2002), starring Nicole Kidman and Ben Chaplin.
Butterworth currently lives in London, but spends a lot of his time in New York.
