Ginnifer Goodwin was born in Memphis, Tennessee on May 22, 1978. After graduating high school in 1996, the aspiring actress attended Boston University, where she received her BFA in Acting. Her education did not end there. Goodwin trained with the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company in London, England and received an Acting Shakespeare Certificate from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). When the hopeful starlet returned to Boston she had the opportunity to perform in the Huntington Theatre Company's stage productions Dead End and As You Like It.

Goodwin left Boston and moved to New York, where she quickly landed a guest role on the TV show Law & Order and a recurring role as Diane Snyder on Ed. In 2002, the budding actress starred in Porn 'n Chicken—her first TV movie for Comedy Central. In 2003 she ended her run on Ed in order to focus her attention on films.

Mona Lisa Smile was Goodwin's feature film debut. She was able to hold her own alongside Hollywood superstars Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst and Maggie Gyllenhaal. In her next film, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, she played Cathy Freely, Kate Bosworth's best friend. Goodwin went on to leading roles in Walk the Line, In the Land of Women, Day Zero, He's Just Not That Into You and Ramona and Beezus. The actress currently stars on the show Once Upon a Time and recently lent her voice to the Disney animated film Zootopia (2016).
