EMILIE DE RAVIN
Date of Birth: December 27, 1981
Born and raised in Australia, Emilie de Ravin began studying ballet when she was nine years old. At 15, she was chosen to attend the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne and performed in productions with the Australian Ballet Company as well as Danceworld 301. By the time she was 16, Emilie began to focus on acting, and enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. Just a year later, she landed the role of the mischievous but powerful Curupira, Guardian of all Game Animals on the popular television series Beastmaster: The Legend Continues.
On her agent's recommendation, Emilie flew to Los Angeles to try out for the role of Tess, a mysterious teenage alien, on the hit series Roswell. When she was chosen for the part, she was written out of Beastmaster and relocated to California, where she joined the cast for the final episodes of the first season.
Her character was phased out for the third season, and Emilie went on to play a supporting role in the TV movie remake Carrie (2002), then made guest appearances on series such as Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, The Handler and CSI: Miami. She also continued her acting training at the Prime Time Actors Studio in Los Angeles.
Emilie made her film debut with a couple of low budget flicks before becoming a household name by landing a starring role on a new series called Lost, as Claire, a pregnant castaway. The show went on to become one of the most popular series on television, winning six Emmys in 2005, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series. In 2006, she shared a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series with the rest of the cast.
During hiatus between the first and second seasons of the show, Emilie portrayed Brenda, the teen daughter of a family being stalked by a group of psychotic people in the horror film The Hills Have Eyes (2006).
Although Lost is filmed in Hawaii, Emilie maintains a home in California. She has filed for divorce from her husband, actor Josh Janowicz, whom she married in 2006.
In her spare time she enjoys painting, shopping and working out.
