Date of Birth: May 26, 1960

"My taking a role depends on a number of things: the script, the director, the cast, whether or not the part turns me on, and how much food I have in the refrigerator—and not necessarily in that order."

Best-known for playing villians, Doug Hutchison was born in Dover but grew up in Detriot. To pursue his dream of becoming an actor, Hutchison moved to New York and attended the renowned Juillard School. There he studied for two years, and while working a number of odd jobs, he performed in regional and Off-Broadway theater.

Hutchison made his professional acting debut at the Cricket Theatre in Minneapolis in the world premiere of Garson Kanin's play, Time and Chance. For his performances in The Other 5% at the Santa Monica Powerhouse Theatre and The Eight at Circle X Theatre in Hollywood, he won DramaLogue Awards.

Finding his career going nowhere, Hutchison reluctantly made the move to Los Angeles where television and film roles were abundant. The move proved the right one when he landed his first film role in Fresh Horses in 1988. The experience led to more work, such as short stints on television series like China Beach, The Young Riders, The X-Files, Party of Five, Space: Above and Beyond and The Practice.

After ten years of obscurity playing small roles in big films like The Lawnmower Man (1992), A Time To Kill (1996), Con Air (1997) and Batman & Robin (1997), Hutchison took on his first starring role in The Green Mile (1999) playing the cowardly Percy Wetmore. The role made filmgoers sit up and take notice of Hutchison for the first time, and his Golden Satellite Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor sealed the fact that he was the real deal.

Hutchison can currently be seen opposite Jamie Foxx in Bait. Next he'll star in The Salton Sea (2001), along with Val Kilmer, Vincent D'Onofrio and Luiz Guzman.

The exposure in The Green Mile led to more starring roles in the 21st century, including films like Bait (2000), I Am Sam (2001) and The Salton Sea (2002).
