DEBORAH KAPLAN
Before attending New York University Tisch School of the Arts film school, Kaplan had crossed the pond. While in England, she went to high school and studied film production at Oxford University. Returning to New York, she met and teamed up with fellow writer/director Harry Elfont. The two discovered that their parents had been good friends and attended neighboring high schools.
After graduating from Tisch, Kaplan and Elfont went their separate ways. Kaplan moved to Los Angeles and worked behind the scenes in the movie industry. When Elfont headed to California after college, they joined forces and crafted The Family Way. Seeing the colaboration was a fruitful one, they continued to work together for the next few years writing films like A Very Brady Sequel, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas and Jingle all the Way.
In 1998, the two decided to get behind the camera and direct their own script, Can't Hardly Wait. The teen flick was a hit, and they soon came out with their second directing/writing collaboration, Josie and the Pussycats in 2001.
While not on set or in front of a computer, Kaplan enjoys kickboxing, photography, and hiking with her dog.
