DAVID TWOHY

Date of Birth: October 18, 1956

Graduating in 1979 from California State University, Long Beach, with a major in radio/television/film and a minor in theatre arts, David Twohy started out as a screenwriter, penning scripts for films such as Warlock (1989), The Fugitive (1993) and G.I. Jane (1998).

His directorial debut came with the Showtime original TV movie Grand Tour: Disaster in Time (1992), for which he won a Golden Raven at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film and a Golden Scroll from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. Twohy wrote the screenplay for his feature directorial debut, The Arrival (1996), starring Charlie Sheen, and was again honored by the Academy with a Saturn Award. Next, he introduced Vin Diesel to the world in Pitch Black (2000), and shared a Bram Stoker award nomination for Best Screenplay with his co-writers, Jim and Ken Wheat.

Below (2002), which Twohy directed and co-wrote, followed a series of haunting and inexplicable occurrences on a World War II submarine and was nominated for an International Fantasy Film Award for Best Film. He teamed up once more with Jim and Ken Wheat for the screenplay of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004). Twohy also directed the movie, again working with Vin Diesel, as well as Judi Dench.

Twohy has been honored by Entertainment Weekly, making their list of "100 most creative people in Hollywood."
