DAVE MATTHEWS
Date of Birth: January 9, 1967
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dave Matthews moved to the United States at the age of 18 and began working as a bartender in a jazz club in Charlottesville, Virginia. He appeared in several plays in the area and in 1991 formed The Dave Matthews Band. They recorded their first independent album, "Remember Two Things," in 1993, and the record was certified gold. In 1994, they recorded the album "Under the Table and Dreaming" for RCA, which was certified platinum. Subsequent recordings also went platinum, and Dave won a 2004 Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for the single "Gravedigger" from his first solo album "Some Devil."
Dave made his film acting debut in Where the Red Fern Grows (2003). However, the film was released to film festivals only, then went straight to DVD. He followed that up with a role in Because of Winn-Dixie (2005), which not only received a wide North American release but won the Award of Excellence at the Heartland Film Festival.
He then joined Adam Sandler in three comedies: I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007), You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008) and Just Go with It (2011). He also played a role as Red in the drama Lake City (2008) with Sissy Spacek.
On television, he lent his voice to the animated show The Simpsons, as bartender Lloyd during an episode of the 30th season, broadcast in 2019.
Dave married Jennifer Ashley Harper on August 10, 2000. On August 15, 2001, Jennifer gave birth to twin girls, Grace and Stella, in Seattle. In 2007, they had a son, August Oliver. Dave continues to tour and record with his band when not acting.
